Hit the fattest raccoon I have ever seen while on the way in this morning. Thankfully I enrolled in the whole “vanishing deductible” thing with my insurance last year so my out of pocket will be next to nothing to get fixed. But wowza that was a hit! Car drives just fine though. Had to pop the fender liner back in to prevent tire rub.
Upside is, this is an excuse to get mods.....right?
I mean, I need a new bumper anyways so while you’re there, let’s talk about that wimpy excuse for an intercooler. And how about that rear motor mount? I think mountune has an answer for me here.

Could have been worse. Good luck with the color match.

The car n eeds another band-aid sticker now.
When I ran over a re-tread truck tire piece the damage seemed minimal, but it turned out that my A/C compressor and one radiator mount were cracked. So, yeah, time for mods probably!

It is a Ford so the color match on the original seemed off sometimes... Also it was so full of rock chips I think just having paint will be an improvement.

Yep. Making an appointment through insurance right now. Probably going to take some vacation time anyways so this works out.

Oh no, is the raccoon ok?

Opinions on its health are divided.
As in, it got split in half.

I think this also calls for Fiesta ST-style rally lights as well.

Raccoons seriously suck.
Last one we hit did $1800 in damage to our car. Thankfully, I run full coverage on everything, so it was fixed at no cost to me, and I was able to get some upgrades out of the deal.

Lol, both my ST and my girlfriends focus are full of chips and no Focus seems to have a perfectly matched front bumper!
I have a wishlist of parts I’m slowly building that I’ll put in action probably spring 2020. Just waiting to see if I buy a B8 avant or not next year first.
Mountune is a bit pricey for some things so I’d look around. For suspension I’m probably going with their clubsport kit but engine/mount and brakes stuff seems cheaper elsewhere.

I got the mount on a sale from mountune, but I got new rotors and pads from stoptech, I think. This is also a 2017 so mountune parts installed by the dealership don’t void the powertrain warranty.

Yeah, credit where credit is due, the car took it like a boss, besides the bumper.

Not as much as Turkeys. Freaking
retarded walking bowling balls.

I’m curious about the stoptechs. I found a whole set including slotted rotors and pads from stoptech, figuring I’ll upgrade to aftermarket when the stocks go.
Beyond that and the clubsport suspension I’m probably doing sway bars and maybe the mountune exhaust. I’m trying to focus on brakes/suspension and driver mod first, haha

I want it as stock as possible aside from the truly weak points of the car. Brakes were wholly inadequate for a track blast and the rear motor mount is still terrible. Aside form that, maybe a better radiator? I know the FiST cried foul on hot days at the track. FoST doesn’t seem to mind but the brakes turn into cheese quite quickly.

Had one of those come through the windshield on the wife’s old F150. That was fun.

That does not found fun

Just cut the bottom half off the bumper and build a prerunner style half bumper?

Something about a large thud, followed by being covered in broken glass/feathers/blood, is very enlightening......

Long ago I hit a racoon in the Chevelle. The bumper is high enough (and steel anyway) that it went under and found either the leading edge of one of the lower control arms or the crossmember of the frame. What a sound it made! Not even a mark on the car.

I hit one around 70 mph in our 1990 Buick Century. I saw it come out, so I stood on the gas to get the nose up. The noise it made when it hit the bumper, then thudded under the car was horrendous. Had to bend my license plate bracket back straight, otherwise, no damage.

You’re right, cooling and brakes seem to be weak points, easy to heat soak especially with the stock IC. I’ve heard a lot about needing a better RMM too, I’ll probably pick one up if I do all the other work. But I agree, besides true weak points and upgraded suspension hits there’s no need to go beyond stock.

Rocket raccoon survived the snap only to be taken out by a primitive earth based land vehicle after. RIP in peace.

I was half an inch away from posting the same thing myself...
Accelerating up a highway on-ramp last night, at its very end I spot a sizeable racoon getting ready to gun it from the left side over to the hard shoulder on the my right. He starts moving quickly, so I drift my car to the left as I slow down, intending to pass behind him as he keeps his speed and trajectory.
Or so I thought: he freezes instead of continuing to run. I swerve to the right instead and have a ‘both feet in’ kinda moment as the ABS does its thing. As that’s happening, he decides to continue running anyway, a decision which brings him right in front of my bumper. I lose sight of him below my hood as the brakes pump themselves to a stop.
The last time I saw him, he was dead center in front of me. My car stopped without a single thud or shake. I felt absolutely nothing, but I didn’t see the racoon escape, either. Did I hit him, or didn’t I??
I pulled over and had a look – clean, straight bumper, no racoon in sight. I suppose he just kept running,
which,
together with my emergency braking, gave him just enough clearance to escape death. This time.

Permission granted - :D Plus, s ounds like a good excuse to mod to your heart’s content.
I was travelling across Highway 50 in Utah (The Loneliest Highway in the USA, if the propaganda is to be believed ) at a brisk pace when a jackrabbit decided to end it all by jumping in front of my Mustang (the previous one, not the current pony) . At least the bumper survived, but it ruined the “splitter” and rock guard. Only $300ish, and I was able to replace the parts myself. Yep, animals can do a number on a modern car...
